WALLICE 23

LA’s newest export, Wallice, has dropped a new single and music video: ‘23’. She blends bouncy indie-pop sensibilities with an existential, highly personal musing on the pressure of growing up. The track, possibly in reference to the quick developments that hit while growing up, jumps between playful thin textures, and hard-hitting distortion and clanging open hi-hats effortlessly. On the track, she explains: “the specific age 23 doesn’t have any milestones associated with it, but it’s more the idea of just looking forward to the future. Much like how people ‘reset’ every new year, it’s comparable to be ‘older and wiser’ with each birthday, but instead of constantly looking to the future, it is important to be happy with where you are.” Go back and listen to ‘Punching Bag’ if you haven’t heard it, and be on the lookout for more over the course of this year. -Dan Peeke
